Happy August: Why I Started This [Specific] Blog

Many of you probably know me from Twitter or from my original blog, lafemmevoyage.com and have been wondering where I've been in the blogging world. Look no further folks, I've been herexoSoleil.com is the "secret" writing project that I've been working on since the first quarter of the year. Because of this, posting on the OG site had become very limited due to my excitement about this. So why this site? One word: inspiration.

My personal blog was really just that: personal. I occasionally throw bits and pieces of pop culture but it's mostly about my life as a trying-to-figure-shit-out twenty-something year old black female. I started that blog just to vent my frustrations and connect with other bloggers. But when I created it, I knew I wanted something more and if any of you read my blog, you'd know I was wanting more too.

Then it happened.

Initially, outside of ranting and connecting with others, lafemmevoyage.com was created as a website so people who read my book(s) can find me and get to know me via the blogosphere. Sometime last year while I was implementing the OG site, something told me to create an inspirational site. I ignored it and went back to what I was doing.

Few months later, it came back to me and I decided to write a few ideas down, you know just incase I decided to come back to it. After it not returning to my thoughts for a while, I figured it was nothing more than that.

One night in October/November of 2013, I was on the phone with my aunt. Of course since I was in my last year of college, the hot topic was "What is Soleil going to do with her life?" I had frequently mentioned doing counseling (despite family and friends stating otherwise, except my aunt) and told her I was most likely going to do that and work in a college as an advisor. I expressed to her that I really want to be a life coach but at my current age & limited experience, people wouldn't take me seriously.

"But what about writing?" My aunt asked.
"Yeah, what about it?"
"Isn't that something you wanted to do?"
"Yeah but I don't think it's realistic."
"Have you ever considered life coaching through writing? " she asked.

Was auntie reading my thoughts? I continued on and she told me I should look into writing self help books because it combines both of my passions: writing and counseling. What's crazy is that I considered that but also put that in the back of my mind. After she mentioned that, ideas for this site resurfaced and I began jotting more stuff down. But yet,  after receiving the idea 3x (my go to number for everything in life), I was still stuck.

It wasn't until my counselor urged me to create this site, just out of the blue (well we were talking about my career so it wasn't completely out of the blue), without knowing I had been considering this. "You should start a self help blog or newsletter or whatever those things are called." Okay, God you got my attention. "I'll do it," I said. What's the worst that can happen? It's just a blog, right?

To make a long story short (I promise to try not make my posts lengthy. Sometimes I like to ramble), this is xoSoleil. A place where you can experience love, faith, and hope. A place where you can heal, release, and grow. A place where I hope my words will give you the exact strength, inspiration, encouragement you're looking for. Think of me as your cheerleader. Believe it or not, I love helping and seeing people succeed in life. And I secretly believe that my mission in life is to help others find their mission in life, or at least help heal & give guidance.

But I'm going to keep it all the way real with you. I'm a New York chick, so sometimes my filter just might be off. Some days my posts won't be sunshine and roses. It will be what needs to be said and read. I'm human just like the rest of you but we don't have go through this thing called life alone. We can get through this together.

Peace & Light,
Soleil
